Weirdies Supporting Weirdies!

3 Reasons to buy from Creative Indie Small Businesses

Here are my top three reasons to buy from creative indie small businesses instead of spending all your money on Black Friday this year.

1. Affordable

I get it. The holidays are tight for everyone. But you don’t have to break the bank to get unique items and support Indie buisnesses. With e-books from $.99 from Jason Nugent, $3.60 button pins from Sewn Together Reflections, and $10 geek paintings from Arleana Holtzmann (yes, all of those include shipping) you can hardly go wrong.

Go ahead. Flip through the list. I’ll wait. The starting prices are a lot lower than I expected. I’ll bet you will be surprised too.

2. Unique Items

Let’s be real here. No one needs another bottle of lotion. But what do you GET? Well, I’ve gathered a list of unique ideas that are affordable. So keep scrolling, you know they don’t have THIS.

You can’t top the gorgeous one-of-a-kind steampunk jewelry from Antiquarian Couture (starting at $20 with the code below). I’ll bet your kids haven’t read The Lazy Vampire ($10 from Jessica Mathews Books). And that is just a start.

3. Your money goes to support ARTISTS!

You are going to be spending the money anyway. Why not support someone’s dream while you are doing it? It’s like giving two presents for the price of one! One to your loved one, and one to the artist. And every single one of these passionate, talented people deserve tons of presents this year.

So go ahead. Take a look. I’ll bet you can find more than one thing that fits your budget and is perfect for the people on your list.

All items are hand-crafted and individually made.

Most of the things I create are inspired by my love of geek and pop culture. I started my business because it can be hard to find geek jewelry that is appropriate to wear in everyday/professional settings, and I wanted to be able to help others celebrate their fandoms.

6 down. 4 to go!

I make high quality, impressive attention to detail, 100% cotton Hawaiian shirts out of bright, fun, unusual, and nerdy fabrics. All of my shirts are pre-shrunk before they are cut out and I match my fronts and pockets so you have a continuous pattern across the front. I love unusual buttons, too. I stock from size S-3X and can make custom up to 5X. I also make several kinds of hats: fleece animal ear hats including cats, panda, and bunnies, velveteen castle hats, and stretch velvet jester hats.

We did it! My son and I finished Subject Delta. We presented at Archon in St. Louis and won best in category Journeyman. My son did around half of the work, especially thenpainting and small details. I will be posting more details soon. I am so proud of his presentation! My favourite complement was that he looked huge on stage. We has to leave out some details because of his size, he is 11 and around 5' 1". . .
