I am excited to have a Cosplay Photographer to feature on this Photographer Friday. Especially this photographer!
WHAT IS YOUR NAME AND BUSINESS NAME?
My name is Travis, and my Instagram is JustCosPhotography
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE BEVERAGE?
I’d probably have to say Dr. Pepper or coffee for my go to drink.
TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF.
Well I am from Florida, where I work in a bookstore. I love to geocache, shoot photos and swing dance. Typically I am found either at work, a local coffee shop, or dancing the night away.
WHEN DID YOU START COSPLAY PHOTOGRAPHY?
Last year around April
WHAT GOT YOU INTO PHOTOGRAPHY?
Well I’ve always been into photography since I was young. My parents got me a little point and click camera when I was young and from then I would take pictures of everything. I am self taught for the most part, but always welcome advice from those who have been doing this longer than I have.
WHAT MADE YOU GO INTO COSPLAY PHOTOGRAPHY SPECIFICALLY?
My best friend Ello.Red on Instagram asked me to take some pictures of her cosplay one day and I said sure. Next thing I know I was taking pictures for cosplayers locally.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING PHOTOGRAPHY?
Like I said, I have been doing photography since I was younger, however it wasn’t until about 3 or 4 years ago that I really got into actually doing better with my photography.
WHAT TYPES OF COSPLAY DO YOU LIKE TO SHOOT?
Really anything works. I love those who are easy to work with and allow me to kind of go with the flow.
WHAT IS YOUR PHOTO SHOOT GOALS, OR SOMETHING YOU WOULD LOVE TO SHOOT?
Truthfully I haven’t thought this far ahead. I’d love to one day be a big name shooting cosplays and just photography in general, but for now I’d just like to get better.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE KIND OF COSPLAY PHOTO SHOOT?
So far my favorites have been just funny, goofy photoshoots.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT COSPLAY PHOTOGRAPHY?
The fact that the person I am shooting doesn’t think my ideas are weird, since most of the time they are in some kind of cosplay. They just go with the idea and we see how well it works for the cosplayer.
WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT THING FOR YOU ABOUT COSPLAY PHOTOGRAPHY?
Not enough time to take a picture of everyone.. Seriously, there are so many good cosplayers and only so much time to take pictures.
DO YOU HAVE ANY CAMERA EQUIPMENT YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
Right now my phone is my camera for cosplays, since I can edit and post right then.
IF YOU COULD LIVE IN OR VISIT ANY FANTASY WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?
ooh this is a tough one.. Either Middle Earth or Harry Potter as long as I get to be a wizard.
IF YOU COULD GIVE COSPLAYERS TIPS ABOUT WORKING WITH A PHOTOGRAPHER, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Talk to us. Let us know how comfortable you are with what we ask. I know I like those who go with the flow, but I also want to make sure I get pictures of what you want me to get as well.
WHAT ARE YOUR “FANDOMS”?
too many to list, but I’ll say Supernatural, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Superheroes are up there on the list.
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WISH COSPLAYERS KNEW ABOUT WORKING WITH A PHOTOGRAPHER?
It does take time to edit and go through every picture. Sometimes I might take anywhere between 50 to 500 pictures at any given event and I want to edit everything before posting.
WHAT MISCONCEPTIONS DO YOU FEEL COSPLAYERS HAVE ABOUT WORKING WITH A PHOTOGRAPHER THAT YOU’D LIKE TO CLEAR UP?
I am still new to this so I don’t have any ideas yet, but maybe one day I’ll have something to put in here, haha.
WHAT IS YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?
Editing photos- Usually it’s posted up at the local coffee shop, drinking my hot white chocolate mocha with caramel drizzle, while listening to movie soundtracks or swing music. If I am doing photoshoots, usually I just look around for ideas that would look cool to shoot.
WHAT ARE SOME PROPER ETIQUETTE TIPS FOR BOOKING A PHOTOSHOOT AND PARTICIPATING IN ONE?
Be on time is my number one.
WHERE CAN PEOPLE FIND YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?
Right now I only have Instagram @JustCosPhotography
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT (REGARDING COSPLAY PHOTOGRAPHY)?
I haven’t hit huge numbers, but I always love seeing the likes on my photos as well as the people who loved the pictures.
Please remember I do not own any of these pictures and the opinions in this survey belong to the interviewee.
