Cosplayer Spotlight – Arkham Cosplay

I love it when cosplayers send me pictures of their cosplay process. This cosplayer’s work is amazing. Enjoy!

WHAT IS YOUR NAME?

Names Ed Humphries, better known as Arkham Cosplay

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BEVERAGE?

Can’t beat a glass of water to keep a clear head, have a soft spot for coffee as well. Literally any will do.

TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF.

I’m 18, from and live in the UK and have been cosplaying for just over 4 years. I am an aspiring police officer and potential PMC. I game, take part in boxing and airsoft in my spare time when I’m not working or cosplaying.

WHEN DID YOU START COSPLAYING?

2016 properly, went to my first con in 2015 as Luigi from Mario bros with a couple of friends. After seeing the film suicide squad, I really wanted an airsoft replica of his rifle and my mates suggested doing a group cosplay of the Suicide Squad and asked me if I could do Deadshot, which I did. The group never went through, however I still followed through and enjoyed it! This is what sparked my love.

WHY DO YOU COSPLAY?

Everyone has their own passion whether It be cooking, sports or even gaming. Mine however is when I’m not on two wheels, is making cosplay props and building cosplays. I find nothing more relaxing than on a hot summer in the garden with a can of Budweiser, spray painting and working on props. Then end result is so satisfying and the attention I get makes me want to keep doing. It’s truly rewarding and I’ve met so many great people, some I even call my best friends despite not liking people! Haha.

WHO ARE YOUR COSPLAY IDOLS?

My cosplay idols have always been @saxtonthornster @redcoat_cosplay @cosplay_chris and @freakishcosplay they are proper men to look up too in terms of cosplay, their armour is always so thought out, and their engagement with fans is really good. Not just great cosplayers, but great people.

WHAT TYPES OF COSPLAY DO YOU DO?

I mainly cosplay DC characters, Deadshot was my first and now I’m working on Red Hood and Wild Dog. I cosplay from games as well, my most popular being Soldier: 76 from the game Overwatch. I’m looking at doing a few more potential skins for him, as well as breaching out into other games such as Call of Duty and Resident Evil.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE COSPLAYS?

Red Hood and Soldier: 76 will definitely be my favourites when I have finished. The amount of money and through process I’ve had behind it has been ongoing for ages and the end result will hopefully be a result of It.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WANT TO COSPLAY BUT PROBABLY NEVER WILL?

I’d love to do the Arkham Knight from the Batman video game arkham trilogy, the Armour is what’s inspired my current cosplays and even my product design schoolwork. It’s very expensive and high skilled so I doubt I’ll have it done anytime soon.

DO YOU MAKE, BUY, OR SPECIAL ORDER YOUR COSPLAYS?

I usually source different items and modify them together, for example with Red Hood I’ve got a batman utility belt I took apart, sanded and painted and added onto a new belt. I’d like to make more of my own stuff but I’m happy doing what I do now, being customising existing items.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT COSPLAY?

Definitely the making, although can be a nightmare somedays, it’s all trial and error and well-rewarding at the end of the day. Some of my mates I met have been a bonus and I’m happy to call some of my closest.

WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT THING FOR YOU ABOUT COSPLAY?

Definitely settling on a cosplay, anyone who knows me will understand how impulsive I am when it comes to this. There’s just too many great characters and easy to lose interest in one.

Who is your favorite character to cosplay?

Soldier: 76 is definitely my most popular, get a lot of people asking about him.

IF YOU COULD LIVE IN OR VISIT ANY FANTASY WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

I’d definitely love to visit Gotham city and see batman and the vigilantes in action. The retro-futuristic universe of Overwatch is definitely on the fictional bucket list too. The maps are truly stunning

Where do you get your inspiration for your cosplays?

Pinterest, it gives so many images and references for characters and can inspire many of my designs.

WHAT ARE YOUR “FANDOMS”?

DC, Overwatch, Marvel, Call of Duty and Les Miserables

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WISH BEGINNING COSPLAYERS KNEW?

That it’s very expensive, depending on who you are. Too many people I’ve seen started who complain about the costs without knowing the actual manufacturing processes which go behind suits etc

WHAT TIPS OR TRICKS DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER COSPLAYERS?

Never be afraid to step out your comfort zone, no one made a difference by staying in it. Always practise with new stuff, always experiment and see what works. Eventually, if not sooner you’re soon start seeing results which will make you proud and happy.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WISH NON-COSPLAYERS KNEW?

That it’s not weird, and it’s a true passion. The amount of time, money, sweat and tears that go into it is true.

WHAT COSPLAYS ARE YOU WORKING ON?

Currently gearing up with @vigilance_cosplay to finish my Red Hood DCEU cosplay and slowly buying stuff to finish Soldier: 76

WHAT COSPLAYS DO YOU WANT TO DO IF MONEY AND TIME WERE NO OBJECT?

Arkham Knight, Halo Spartan Armour, Punisher War-Machine, Star-Lord and Cable. Can tell I’m a fan of armoured builds.

WHERE CAN PEOPLE FIND YOUR COSPLAYS?

On my Instagram page @arkham.cosplay for photos and WIP in my highlights

Would you consider cosplay a big part of your life? And has it changed it for the better?

Yes and yes, cosplay I’ve managed to learn so much through and meet some cool people. My mental health problems were shit before I started and then when I started meeting people I was feeling a lot better.

Please remember I do not own any of these pictures and the opinions in this survey belong to the interviewee.
