Weirdies Supporting Weirdies!

Cosplayer Spotlight – Lady Lo Cosplay

Check out this adorable cosplayer for your hump day. She’s got some great thoughts and insights.

Hello, what is your name?

I am Lady Lo Cosplay, on Instagram, grand matriarch of the #chubbdollrevolution (its not a thing yet, but it will be)

What is your favorite beverage?

I will be your best friend for a can of cotton club 50/50! I was so elated when my sister bought me 40 cans for Christmas, and was so depressed when they were gone. They lasted 3 weeks.

Tell me a little about yourself.

I am your average nerd living in the Midwest. When I’m not dying from con crunch, I am somewhere playing in makeup, trying to dance like a k-pop idol (and failing) or trying new food. I love eating ice cream and watching anime with friends.

When did you start cosplaying?

I didn’t attend my first con until I was a broke freshman in college. I accidentally stumbled across that schools anime club cosplaying kingdom hearts in the library???? I stopped in and they invited me to Ohayocon 2012. I had two days to find a costume….so I thifted two giant sheets (blue and white) and made a very shady looking Yuna from final fantasy X.

Why did you start cosplaying?

Cosplay was literally a matter of chance! I hadn’t thought about doing it until I was suddenly thrust into that world and making tons of friends. I keep cosplaying because I love the creativity and feel high reward from impersonating my favorite characters. I’m also vain and love to cosplay things people tell me big girls can’t wear.

Who are your cosplay idols?

I have so many cosplay idols!! @tranquil_ashes, @cin_von_quinzel, @ivydoomkitty, @destinyitalia…the list goes on and on!

What types of cosplay do you do?

I usually stick to anime and video games, but I plan to take a tail spin into villains this year:)

What are your favorite cosplays?

My favorites that I have done is my remake of Lady Yuna and Chun Li!

What is something you want to cosplay but probably never will: *sigh*…..I hate to admit it, but probably Fran from Final Fantasy 12. I love her so much, but I am struggling to make her work for my body type.

Do you make, buy or special order your cosplays?

I hand make all of my cosplays! The market isn’t too kind to plus size cosplayers, so we have to pave (or stitch) our own way.

What do you love about cosplay?

I love that cosplay brings so many people together and brings out the most awesome creativity! One never knew how awesome plastic spoons can be as armor until you see a chainmail made with them!

What is the most difficult thing for you about cosplay?

The most difficult thing about cosplay is feeling confident in it. Sometimes it’s hard to show yourself and your work in this very vulnerable way.

Who is your favorite character to cosplay?

My favorite character to cosplay was Yuna! I feel so in tune with her character that it was easy to be her.

If you could live in or visit any fantasy world, where would you go?

If I could go to any fantasy world, I would want to live in the world of magic, like in Ancient Magus Bride.

Where do you get your inspiration for your cosplays?

I get inspired by other cosplayers! Instagram hashtags are a wellspring of inspiration. I follow a lot of plus size cosplay pages, and Every day I am amazed.

What are your “fandoms”?

I guess I’m in the Final fantasy fandom??? I don’t really stick to one genre of anything, I am a general nerdist:)

What is something you wish beginning cosplayers knew?

I wish beginning cosplayers knew not to worry so much. To enjoy cosplay and practice to get better. Skill isn’t automatic.

What tips do you have for other cosplayers?

my tip for cosplayers is always give yourself time! Living in perpetual con crunch is HELL

What is something you wish non-cosplayers knew?

I wish non cosplayers knew that cosplay takes dedication and money, and we are proud of what we do.

What cosplays are you working on?

I am currently working on Kurenai, Sesshomaru and Princess of the Crystal

What cosplays do you want to do if money and time were no object?

I would love to do a full build of an armored character, like an armored Poison Ivy, with a full rose handled leather whip! Or (to be completely opposite) a Belle ballgown.

Where can people find your cosplays?

You can find me on Instagram as @LadyLoCosplay #ladylocosplay #chubbdollrevolution

What question should I have ask, but didn’t (and what is the answer):

Design a tee shirt that expresses you?

Answer: I want a tee shirt with Zoom, Mr. Rodgers, lambchop, Molly from big comfy couch and Wishbone that says “The good ole days” on it.

Please remember I do not own any of these pictures and the opinions in this survey belong to the interviewee.
