If you love long flowing cosplays, do not miss this cosplayer! She has some amazing thoughts and insights into the cosplay community!
Hi! What is your name?
What is your favorite beverage?
I always take advice from the great and wise Fagan “shut up and drink yer gin” so Gin and tonic is my favourite drink of choice!
When did you start cosplaying?
I got interested in cosplay around 2012 but started cosplaying an attending conventions in late 2013! However, I’ve only recently started showing my cosplays on social media.
Why did you start cosplaying?
I started cosplaying because it involves my two favourite things; sewing and fandoms! I also think its a great and creative way of showing your love and appreciation for a show/film/book/game
What was your first cosplay?
My first cosplay was England from hetalia, which I bought to wear to MCM London in 2013, I feel like I’ve progressed a lot since then.
Who are your cosplay idols?
Carmenvalentina, n1njag1rlcosplay, Mischeifmanagers
I have so many different cosplayers who I look up to, but these are three of them. I love the different aspects of these cosplayers and what they bring to their respective costumes, from the detailed transformation make-up to the production of their skits.
What types of cosplay do you do?
My first cosplays were primarily animes, recently i’ve been doing more cosplays from books movies and tv shows.
What are your favorite cosplays?
Of my own cosplays, my favourite cosplay to have made was probably Morgana, I rarely make female cosplays so it was fun to make!
What is something you want to cosplay but probably never will?
I wouldn’t say I’d never cosplay something, as I would like to think I would give anything a go! But I’m unlikely to cosplay anything too revealing (so no comic book accurate scarlet witch for me)
Do you make, buy, or special order your cosplays?
I primarily make my cosplays from scratch however, in the past I have bought and adapted existing costumes.
What do you love about cosplay?
I am able to express myself and behave in a completely different ways to how I would in the everyday. Its always quite exciting to discover how I can interpret a character in another way from a different cosplayer.
What is the most difficult thing for you about cosplay?
WIGS. I’m generally not the best with hair anyway, so cutting and styling wigs is quite daunting for me.
Who is your favorite character to cosplay?
I think my favorite character to cosplay is Harry Potter as I can fully embrace my utter cluelessness.
If you could live in or visit any fantasy world, where would you go?
Definitely the wizarding world, it has so much potential for chaos and fun!
Where do you get your inspiration for your cosplays?
I look to other cosplayers and fan art for inspiration for some of my cosplays and others I try to stay as loyal to the original as I can.
What are your “fandoms”?
Harry potter, Merlin, Marvel, James Bond, Sherlock, Lord of the rings, Percy Jackson, (to name a few)
What is something you wish beginning cosplayers knew?
it doesn’t matter how much you spend on a cosplay or if its bought or made; its the fun you have expressing yourself as that character!
What tips or tricks do you have for other cosplayers?
Research, research, research! what I do see a lot (and a few times with my own work) is that cosplayers make beautiful detailed work but it is usually quite fragile and prone to breaking. My tip is to research different techniques or materials which can make your cosplays and props more robust. Its never a good feeling having your cosplay slowly disintegrate halfway through a con!
What is something you wish non-cosplayers knew?
Not every cosplay has to be overtly sexual, you can cosplay who or what you like! Showing skin is optional 🙂
What cosplays are you working on?
I am slowly (very slowly) making my way through Megara from Hercules and re-making Grell Sutcliffe from kuroshitsuji.
What cosplays do you want to do if money and time were no object?
I have a weakness for princess cosplays Disney or otherwise, so if I had the time and money would love to make some epic ballgowns.
Where can people find your cosplays?
Currently only instagram: leoralockeartcosplay, but I should be getting other platforms up and running in the new year! (check it out if you are interested)
