Cosplayer Spotlight – Negan

I share a lot of fandoms withn his cosplayer. He’s got some great insights, so comment and like!

What can we call you?

I am Negan, but Cory is cool too.

What is your favorite beverage?

H2O! Gotta stay hydrated especially at conventions.

When did you start cosplaying?

I started in 2015 and wasn’t very good.

Why did you start cosplaying?

I’ve always liked working with my hands and building things, so figured building props for characters I like seemed fun and challenging. I’m a huge nerd so being able to walk a mile in the shoes of my favorite characters is really fun. Bringing that character to life and seeing the reaction of others when you do is awesome.

Who are your cosplay idols?

Bill and Brit Doran. They’re amazing

What types of cosplay do you do?

I tend to lean toward darker characters. Villains are so fun to do especially because that’s not who I am as person. I still try to do some heroes or anti-heroes occasionally though.

What are your favorite cosplays?

I really enjoy seeing people do Warcraft cosplay builds. They’re big and detailed and makes me appreciate the effort and skill and time that that person to put into it.

What is something you want to cosplay but probably never will?

I don’t know if there are any. If it’s something I really want to do I’ll still give it a try.

Do you make, buy, or special order your cosplays?

I typically do a combination of make and buy.

What do you love about cosplay?

I love getting into character and portraying that character the best I can.

What is the most difficult thing for you about cosplay?

Not having enough money and time to devote to it full time. I wish I could just make costumes and props all day for myself and travel to every single convention I want to go to.

Who is your favorite character to cosplay?

I love cosplaying Negan. Getting into his character is so fun. I’ve got something in the works though that I’m really excited about!

If you could live in or visit any fantasy world, where would you go?

Man that’s a tough question. If I had to choose one it would be middle earth, with hogwarts in a close second.

Where do you get your inspiration for your cosplays?

I’ve always enjoyed different fandoms my entire life. So now I can look back at what characters really stood out to me and portray them if I feel a connection to them. If it’s a particular universe I’m interested in, I’ll try to create an original character from it or create my own spin on a character. Examples of that would be my hunter guardian from destiny or my gladiator captain America.

What are your “fandoms”?

Tolkien, Harry Potter, marvel, dc, elder scrolls, walking dead. So many.

What is something you wish beginning cosplayers knew?

You’re going to mess up, it’s inevitable. Even when you think you’ve done everything right. Don’t get frustrated just appreciate the process.

What tips or tricks do you have for other cosplayers?

Try to be unique. A lot of people do the typical generic characters instead of really making it their own. Be creative and try to find things you already have around the house and turn it into a prop for a character.

What is something you wish non-cosplayers knew?

How much fun we have doing what we do and how supportive the cosplay community is.

What cosplays are you working on?

An original Sith Lord that I’m super pumped about. Han Solo, Hannibal Lecter, commander Shepard. Also working on Skurge from Thor Ragnarok not not putting as much into that one right now.

What cosplays do you want to do if money or time were no object?

Not really sure. I don’t think there’s a specific one, I would just do more of them. I try to make it work with what I’ve got.

Where can people find your cosplays?
