Happy Saturday! This talented cosplayer is a great way to end the week of interviews. Be sure to follow them!
WHAT IS YOUR NAME?
My name’s Firkle but I also go by Kat or Curtis to some close friends of mine. At cons; however, people call me Neko!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BEVERAGE?
I love pink lemonade, but if it’s soda it’s Pepsi all the way.
TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF.
Well I am a physically disabled cosplayer, who drabbles in different things. For example I am a photographer and a inspiring makeup artist. I also started a youtube channel to spread awareness over cosplayers with disabilities and to show that I can still do things that others can.
WHEN DID YOU START COSPLAYING?
I did my first out of closet cosplay when I was 12 so in 2012 (it was a female England from Hetalia, it was awful!), but I didn’t fully get into cosplaying until I was 14 so 2014!
WHY DO YOU COSPLAY?
here’s really a lot of different reasons if I’m being honest. At first it was something for me to do with free time and to hang with my friends, but then it developed into a hobby really. I suffer from severe anxiety and cosplaying helps me become someone I admire (like the characters I cosplay) most of my characters are ones that I relate to in some way or the other. Or I just love the character design! I love going to conventions and meeting new people especially ones who are open to the cosplay world! It’s honestly been a huge help for me and has allowed me to meet amazing people!
WHO ARE YOUR COSPLAY IDOLS?
Oh boy I have a lot and all for different reasons! I’ll only list some! My favorite sfx cosplayer would have to be @upshorecosplay or @ainturwaifu! Upshorecosplay has a wide variety of sfx makeup that is really amazing while Ainturwaifu has more along the lines of gory scar makeup which I love! As for regular cosplay idols one would definitely have to be my friend @mikeiira, she’s an amazing person who has helped me come out of my shell a lot at conventions. Another would be @smol_paradox! They cosplay a lot of characters who don’t get much love from certain animes and I really love seeing the variety of their cosplays!
WHAT TYPES OF COSPLAY DO YOU DO?
I do a lot of different types actually! I love cosplaying from anime’s and tv series, like The Walking Dead. I also cosplay some superheroes like Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy or Pietro, aka Quicksilver, from Age of Ultron. I do have some video game cosplays that aren’t completed yet, but I can’t wait to do them! I also do OC characters!
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE COSPLAYS?
If you mean cosplays I have done I would definitely have to say Hinata from Haikyuu or Bakugou from My Hero Academia. I relate to both characters and I absolutely love their personalities even though they are both completely different from the other.
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WANT TO COSPLAY BUT PROBABLY NEVER WILL?
My dream cosplay would have to be Rose Quartz from Steven Universe, but someone had ruined the series for me so sadly I have left the fandom.
DO YOU MAKE, BUY, OR SPECIAL ORDER YOUR COSPLAYS?
It’s a mix honestly. Some cosplays I buy if I have the money and don’t have time to make them. I don’t have a sewing machine so I hand sew everything. I do make most of my cosplays even if it’s just adding fabric or designs here or there. I do more commissions for others then I do for myself.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT COSPLAY?
I love the fact that cosplay gives you the ability to come out of your shell and open up to new possibilities. It’s became a hobby that allows me to make friends and become who I am today.
WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT THING FOR YOU ABOUT COSPLAY?
I would say getting wigs and new items to make cosplays. Either that or finding a way to conventions. Most times my disabilities keep me from doing certain things, sometimes it takes me hours to even do simple makeup or to get dressed.
Who is your favorite character to cosplay?
Hitoshi from My Hero Academia. I just love his character design and his development.
IF YOU COULD LIVE IN OR VISIT ANY FANTASY WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?
I would love to go to the My Hero Academia world! I love the idea that everyone is different and no one gets judged based on their appearance because everyone is different.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FOR YOUR COSPLAYS?
everywhere! Whether I seen a friend or someone else cosplay something. Sometimes I see a artist work that inspires me or a story I love a character too.
WHAT ARE YOUR “FANDOMS”?
Haikyuu, Kuroko no Basket, My Hero Academia, South Park, Voltron, and a lot of others!
WHAT TIPS OR TRICKS DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER COSPLAYERS?
When packing for a convention also make a list of items so you know exactly what you need to bring and not forget anything.
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WISH NON-COSPLAYERS KNEW?
I wish they knew too not randomly take pictures of us. I have had people walk by me at conventions and take pictures of me while I was eating or resting. They never even asked. They would stop and take pictures then leave. I know us cosplayers love our work to be shown, but it’s disrespectful to not ask us for permission to take our pictures. I wish they knew to always ask us for pictures! (half of the time we always say yes, but it’s still better to ask the person)
WHAT COSPLAYS ARE YOU WORKING ON?
Currently Paige from Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared and I’ve been planning a secret cosplay for Yamacon 2018.
WHERE CAN PEOPLE FIND YOUR COSPLAYS?
You can find my cosplays on my youtube channel NekoMimi Cosplay or my cosplay insta @nekomimicosplay0.2 (instagram deleted my old one) or if you have tiktok on there as @nekomimicosplay
Please remember I do not own any of these pictures and the opinions in this survey belong to the interviewee.
