Hello! Please introduce yourself.

Hi hi! Thank you so much for taking your time to make this interview and to all of you who are here thank you so much for passing by! My name is Cat and you may know me from my Instagram account @soulstealercat :3

What is your favorite beverage?

I never actually thought about it, but it has to be vanilla smoothie! The flavour is so subtle but yet so sweet for you to perceive it, I love it~

When did you start cosplaying?

Let’s say I officially started cosplaying around August/September, and been working on it since then, because I’ve already done my first cosplay attempt in 2014 but just out of curiosity, this time it was for real and to keep carrying on with it.

Why did you start cosplaying?

I’ve always thought of it as a really amazing hobby/life style and also a really fun way of expressing yourself! The idea of bringing to life a character you love and being able to be in “their skin” mesmerized me and also all the work that is behind a cosplay is also an incredible experience. In cosplay I found an interesting way of expressing myself and having fun by doing something I like and always wanted to do.

Who are your cosplay idols?

Kamui cosplay, she’s like seriously the love of my cosplayer life, hahaha for real, I admire her to the sun and beyond, her work is stunning and the way she manages to create all those props and costumes has me deeply in love with her. And it’s funny how people always go and tell her stuff that is easier to create such things with all the equipment she has, but they completely ignore all the things she’s been through, and how hard she has worked to be where she is now. To me is a living example that you can get really far if you put effort, dedication and tons on love in what you do♡

What type of cosplay do you do?

Right now I do mostly anime because it was anime that first gave me the idea and inspiration to start cosplaying but I’m looking forward to do some video games and maybe superheroes in the future, the idea of making something from The Legend of Zelda, Kingdom Hearts and Marvel gets me really excited about future cosplays! And also some Lord of the rings material I’m willing to get done by this year, woohoo!

What are your favorite cosplays?

I guess SuzuyaJuuzou and KrulTepes are my favourites at this moment. FirstlySuzuya because I had my first photo shoot as him, and it was a closet cosplay! And also because I’ve always love that character since the anime came up, and having the chance to start with him a big project like this makes me really happy about it. On the other hand there’s Krul, who’s actually my latest cosplay and oh boy, let’s start with the costume itself, it’s soooo pretty! I feel like a total diva-queen like girl, which in fact makes it even better at the time of getting into character, she’s one of my favourite characters of one of my favourite anime/manga series.

What is something you want to cosplay but probably never will?

I don’t think I have one, I mean if I wanna cosplay something I’ll do my best to actually doing it, it might sound ambitious but as people like to say “Go big or go home”!

Do you make, buy, or special order your cosplays?

Right now a few cosplays I’ve made (Rem and Krul) and some costest (Ahri and Dva) have been borrowed from a friend, the other ones are basically stuff I have laying around my house, when it comes to props I make them, is one of favourite parts of working on cosplays. The few stuff I have planned for this year is gonna be home made, it’s more affordable that way and will also allow me to have more memories of the process of making my cosplay, which is really special to me.

What do you love about cosplay?

The making of a cosplay and getting into character are my favourite parts of the whole process as I said before, but also making people besides myself happy with my work is a really heartwarming feeling, it really encourages me to keep doing what I love and getting much better every time.

What is the most difficult thing for you about cosplay?

Sometimes the actual making of the cosplays (since I’ve been working on a few recently) and not because I find it difficult, is mostly because of the lack of time or tools that make the process slower. Another thing can possibly be the confidence you need to actually get into cosplay, for some people is easier but you know, it depends so much on every cosplayer, but you know, sometimes all these thoughts about how it’ll come out, how will it look on myself or will I suit the character come to my mind and kinda stops me from doing it, but then I think about tha fact that I also do it because of me and the fact that I love the character and makes it easier to deal with all the doubts.

Who is your favorite character to cosplay?

SuzuyaJuuzou! He’s so extrovert and crazy is really fun getting into him! That was really my favourite shoot of all time, a friend did the pictures for me and we totally forgot we were taking photos, it was a really awesome time we spent together. Getting into Suzuya gave me a lot of confidence in myself so I was able to go all crazy and do funny faces to the camera and actually loving the character even more.

If you could live in or visit any fantasy world, where would you go?

Well, I’m allowed to pick more than one, right? I’ll go to Amestris, the country where fullmetal alchemist takes place, aka my favourite anime/manga series of all timeeeeee, the idea of that magic like alchemy being possible always got the attention of my wildest dreams. Also the Harry Potter universe and Lord of the Rings universe, both sagas were part of my childhood and I’ve always dreamed of being a witch or a member of the high elves and just wander around all those pretty but dangerous places, at least New Zealand is pretty close Middle earth hahahaha.

Where do you get your inspiration for your cosplays?

I get the inspiration from animes or video games I like, I look out for the characters that I love and would like to bring to life.

What are your “fandoms”?

Let’s see, Boku no hero academia, Danganronpa, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Fullmetal alchemist, Voltron, Kingdom Hearts, The legend of Zelda and Marvel for the moment, and a lot more but I wont be naming all of them rnahaha.

What is something you wish beginning cosplayers knew?

Cosplay is for everyone, don’t let bad comments, about whatever people complains about, just take a shot and do what you wish! Is not easy and sometimes you’ll think about giving up, things won’t always come out the way you expect it and that’s okay, nothing’s perfect at the beginning, just enjoy what life gives you and most important, have fun!

What tips/tricks do you have for other cosplayers?

Don’t push yourself too hard, sometimes it’s okay to take a rest and slow down things a little bit, don’t feel pressured to do a cosplay, the idea is to be comfortable doing it and enjoying the experience!

What is something you wish non-cosplayers knew?

Cosplaying is not easy, for real guys, some people think is only about getting dressed and that’s it, but they ignore all the effort that’s been made to put together that cosplay you see, the process of making, getting ready and be confident enough to go out and show our work to the world is not always easy and will try to bite you, but we are strong enough to bite it back.

What cosplays are you working on?

Right now I’m working on Female Ezreal from League of legends, an upcoming KrulTepes photo shoot, a few costest and also Deidara from Naruto, I wanna have a little bit of more content because I’m planning on opening my Facebook page this year, stay tuned for more updates hehe~

What cosplays do you want to do if money/time were no object?

KatsukiBakugou, of course I’m gonna do it, but gosh, I wish I could start him right now! Also Project Ekko is one of my dream cosplays I wanna do in the future.

Where can people find your cosplays?

At the moment only at instagram (@soulstealercat) but later on will be also posted on Facebook :3 -I’m gonna keep the same name for all the pages I get to open at the future-

Please remember I do not own any of these pictures and the opinions in this survey belong to the interviewee.
