Cosplayer Spotlight – The Seeker

This Seeker has found some awesome cosplays. I’m so glad I found them!

WHAT IS YOUR NAME?

The Seeker: My name is L but some people call me The Seeker.
My username is: @seekercosfur

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BEVERAGE?

The Seeker: Oooooh favourite beverage? Im from the UK so tea is a big thing for me. I love earl grey tea but never give me decaf. Decaf is for the weak! I love coffee too! Pumpkin spice frappes are good. My question is whats your favourite drink? I think it shows off personality. You can learn alot about a person when it comes to what drinks they like!

TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF.

The Seeker: I’m from the UK! To be more specific east yorkshire. Everyone always tells me my accent sounds more southern though. Probably because where im from no one knows how to pronounce their h’s or t’s. I’m into a lot of creative art and media including fashion. I’ve just started a mixed art and design course in college and am making many new friends through it.
I especially love steampunk, goth, alternative, cyberpunk, victorian, harujuku and just out there fashion. I like to express myself and love to see others doing so too! I cosplay in public and for events because I’m not afraid to show who I really am or act silly in charecter! I want to show other people they dont have to be either through my creativity. I hope one day I can see other people expressing their creativity too.
It’s a struggle for me to afford all the stuff I do as I pay for it all myself but its worth it to smile on peoples faces of all age. Or to bring a charecter or dream to life. I love meeting fans and it makes my day when people come over to say hello.
I try as hard as I can to get people from as many fandoms as i can interested in my cosplay because I want to make people happy.
Something more recent thats made it harder is my epilepsy. I have light sensitive epilepsy that im on meds for. I’ve been told that I could possibley be on it for life but I will be given special lenses to help control it soon. Blue lensed glasses are gonna be fun to match with my outfits.

WHEN DID YOU START COSPLAYING?

The Seeker: Back in the summer of 2015 I begged and begged for a cosplay. My first cosplay was The 10th doctor. He inspired me. David tennant has been a huge inspiration with his acting throughout my life and ever since I was 8 or 9 when I received a present (1-4th series of doctor who) I have wanted to be like him. That was the start of my cosplay journey and ill never forget the day I received that suit. I think I cried. My first cosplay to a con was human foxy the pirate to my second con. Ive never been to a con in normal clothes since.

WHY DO YOU COSPLAY?

The Seeker: Cosplay to me is art. But more then just art. I use it as a way to make other people happy in the way they never dis for me. Lets just say I was a little…depressed before cosplay. I didnt exactly have any friends and the ones I did have I found hard to keep. I want people who never looked forward to seeing anything or doing anything to be happy with my art. I do it to give people inspiration and something to look up to and look forward to. I want to make people who feel sad or depressed give a genuine smile. I also see it as sort of a form of therapy. I cosplay a lot and when i feel down or messed over by someone. . . I go to the cupboard and grab a cosplay. I want to be that person that you can look at that could make you believe that something that wasn’t real was even if it was just for a split second. If i have to die in cosplay to bring true happiness to someone who hasn’t ever felt it I’ll gladly fall into my coffin dressed up. I also like to explore art and fashion and capture more then one style. Most people just look at me and shout abuse about me being “emo” when they see what i wear in real life. Which is true. I am emo trash. But its hilarious when i see or walk past the same person the next day and they don’t even recognise me. One day i might be wearing band shirts, the next victorian fashion, the next a completely pastel outfit. I love to get the reactions from people like shocked or confused faces or my favourite, a big grin and rarely but sometimes a photo. Cosplay is MY WORLD. And I would rather live in the illusion then my lonely reality. If i had to compare my life to a film it would be ready player one. In the real world I’m like Wade Watts. Family arguments like theres no tomorrow, kids being little jerks ect. When i get into cosplay and go to con its switches a flip. Its like my illusion came to me. Its like coming parzival stepping into the oasis. You can be anyone or anything. Different gender, race, species, skin color. You can be ANYTHING. I mean just look at the homestuckians they probably aren’t even from this planet. (Sorry homestuck I’m just kidding.) If your mind is truly inspired and if you have a good enough imagination you can accomplish anything. And I hope to make as many people as i can smile one day. Cosplay is an adventure you need to grab with both hands and just roll with it. The art of cosplay is absolutely incredible. I want to thank the people who inspired me.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE COSPLAYS?

The Seeker: The tenth doctor
Jack frost
Parzival
All might and Lemillion

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WANT TO COSPLAY BUT PROBABLY NEVER WILL?

The Seeker: My fall out 4 character including the gear and such. One of my OC’s I’ve had for years but he has a huge amount of weapons strapped to him and the belt that i need to find the costumes way too expensive and ide never be able to make or afford the sword. Barty crouch jr. Quicksilver from xmen. Crowley and Aziraphale from good omens. There will always be a cosplay just out of reach due to my money limitations. People don’t realize sometimes that cosplay costs hundreds of pounds.

DO YOU MAKE, BUY, OR SPECIAL ORDER YOUR COSPLAYS?

The Seeker: I buy cosplays but sometimes I adjust and a lot of the times add my own stuff. My tall might (latge all moght) wig I made myself using arda wigs stuff but the tax and shipping and extra two tax I got from the post office made a 38 pound order over 120 pounds. Its my most expensive wig. I made my woody cosplay by adding the lace and ribbon on a cheap hat painting and replacing buttons on my woody cosplay. I made my full lemillion cosplay which tool 2 weeks 14 needles excruciating pain and crying on the floor having an existential crisis. But it was WORTH IT. Theres quite a few more but I don’t remember everything off by heart.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT COSPLAY?

The Seeker: Cosplay is artistic and allows for a lot of freedom when it comes to what you want to make do or be. You can literally be anything as I explained earlier. I love acting in character and being me. I love changing into other people and expressing myself through my costumes. I also love how people bring characters for life. Its like going to Disneyland without having to go anywhere. The characters just become real before your eyes with the power of acting. You don’t even needs props! Again its all about imagination. I will make myself look like an idiot if it means being in character but its hilarious and always leaves you with a story. I love quoting to people in cosplay and watching them freak out or finish the other line of the quote. Its just fun. Its something to do and a great way to make friends and learn valuable and artistic lessons with friends. You can learn life skills like sewing (industrial or normal) art, embroidery, costume making, photography, acting, etc. Whether its your hobby, job or just for fun its a beautiful community.

WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT THING FOR YOU ABOUT COSPLAY?

The Seeker: Most people would say making the costumes. Thats one of them. But for me its traveling. The city I live isn’t very big. Theres a small con here but I’ve been to it so much its starting to get a little boring. I spent over 120 pounds just to travel to Manchester to meet Bryan Dechart and Amelia Rose Blaire and my friend @har_fie (who by the way is wonderful) but it was a ridiculous amount of money. I want to go to bigger cons though and meet everyone! I even met fans through mcm! Again I almost cried. I think the cosplayers of mcm was how I found cosplaying so its my dream to be able to travel to the other cons. Another thing which is also difficult is the people. I go round personally to deliver compliments to every cosplay thats cosplaying a character I recognise even sometimes those I don’t recognise. This last year a few have been rude. I went into cosplaying due to the freedom and the creativity and now bullies are slowly slipping through. I want to change that and make sure I can bring happiness to as many cosplayers as I can. Its my personal challenge.

Who is your favorite character to cosplay?

The Seeker: Either the tenth doctor or jack frost get to act as the characters. Doctor who as influenced me a lot so if someone tells me to act as the doctor for the con its easy and fun. Run a hand through the hair and shout allonsy run round the con asking if anyones seen a big red thing covered in suckers. Also if theres any enemies around pointing a shiny light (sonic screwdriver) and being dramatic is funny as hell. Peoples reactions are hilarious. Jack frost is fun because I get to pose and stick my tongue out and play pranks on people. Also if I’m in the con I get to take my shoes off which is always a bonus. I praise those cosplayers that can go more then 3 hours or even a full day in heels.

The doctor will always be a favourite as he is a big influence on my life.

IF YOU COULD LIVE IN OR VISIT ANY FANTASY WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

The Seeker: Oh. My. God. Only one!? With the doctor would be my first choice (even if I’d probably die pretty quickly for being way too curious) but I’d also love to visit the world of Detroit become human. So many choices. Maybe ready player one? I don’t like the reality but imagine being in the oasis? YOU COULD BE ANYTHING! Being in cosplay is like being in a fantasy world and i want to bring the fantasy world to everyone else through my cosplay so this was a pretty fun question.

Where do you get your inspiration for your cosplays?

The Seeker: Other people online but mostly from the characters themselves. I want to get as canon-ly or as close looking to the characters as I can. Right now that means hunting down items to get the exact shirt design of the eleventh doctor (dear god send help).
I try to figure out what material the things are made of. I love the personalities of the characters and if i click with that character in any way you’ll know about it because ill be shouting quotes and in the blink of an eye probably be in the cosplay if I can afford or make it.

WHAT ARE YOUR β€œFANDOMS”?

The Seeker: Way too many to count. Heres just a few:

Way more but again I’m onto way too many fandoms πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WISH BEGINNING COSPLAYERS KNEW?

The Seeker: Save the money for better cosplays. A lot of the anime cosplays I bought I don’t use as much anymore because they were so cheap and tackily made they ripped or just looked terrible and didn’t fit. Go to trusted buyers. Ive been fobbed off a few times I’m not going to say who through but some have been growing cosplay sites now.

WHAT TIPS OR TRICKS DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER COSPLAYERS?

The Seeker: Tips or tricks? Watch the movie or series the night before con to remember quotes. It adds to your character your cosplay could be terrible but so long as you can act it changes peoples perspectives of you. Find a good wig? I’d rather spend 120 pounds on a wig and have a tacky costume then have an extremely expensive costume and a shiny party store wig. Wigs always help. I don’t wanna look like i just strolled out of party city with a wig so shiny it reflects the sun into everyones eyes πŸ˜‚

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WISH NON-COSPLAYERS KNEW?

The Seeker: How hard and expensive it is. Ive had people pull my costumes and break parts of my costumes because they think its funny to tug at them. Its not fun. I spend my money on this and i have to spend even more to fix it. I dont think youde want the bill for my cosplay.
We dont always want pictures taken so please respect that and don’t try to secretly record us or take a photo because we can see you.
On a lighter note. Cosplaying is fun! Its like halloween but every day. Join in.

WHAT COSPLAYS ARE YOU WORKING ON?

The Seeker: The 11th doctor, rocket raccoon, if I ever finish it I was doing wolverine but I’m using the yarn method on the wig. The most recent one I finished was woody and was a huge 2 week project which I had to fix because someone stepped on the back of my shoes and broke it at mcm.

WHAT COSPLAYS DO YOU WANT TO DO IF MONEY AND TIME WERE NO OBJECT?

The Seeker: Every outfit of the tenth and eleventh doctor including aus and fanart outfits like the steampunk 10th doctor.
Castiel from spn with the huge anamotronic wings.
Marty mcfly in his sons outfit from the second film. I thought that was heccin awesome. Justice league flash/ quicksilver from xmen but maybe my own twist like an older version? And maybe a half and half venom cosplay.
Just better versions of the characters I do because some of the outfits I have aren’t great.

WHERE CAN PEOPLE FIND YOUR COSPLAYS?

The Seeker: @seekercosfur on instagram and tiktok
@therealno1hero on instagram (account is currently being worked on)

I’m also an artist and a photographer. I do photo edits and am looking for anyone who would pay to have edits done of cosplay! If your interested dm and I’ll tell you prices. It’ll help out with me buying future cosplays!

How old are you?

The Seeker: Answer I’ll be 17 on October 17th this year. I always think its interesting to see how old people really are. Its hard to tell under a costume sometimes. Its nice to see new talent from people of all ages.

Please remember I do not own any of these pictures and the opinions in this survey belong to the interviewee.
