Weirdies Supporting Weirdies!

Getting Ready for Anime St. Louis

This weekend is one that is one of the most anticipated in the St. Louis Cosplay community. One of the biggest Anime celebrations in the area, Anime St. Louis.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge anime fan. I don’t watch as much as I’d want. Really my anime experience is limited to RWBY and a few episodes of Naruto.

I attended ASTL last year (see my review here) and had a great time. However, most of my cosplays were not anime. I decided this year would be different.

One of my first favorite fan videos was one that was an edit about Sakura’s love life. I watched it so much in the early 2000’s that my sister thought I was a massive Naruto fan until I shattered that illusion for her with a truth bomb a few months ago.

But I’ve always loved this character. She kicks serious butt. She has been on my list for a long time to cosplay. When I stumbled upon a Sakura wig a few months ago, I knew that Anime St. Louis was the time for Sakura to become a reality.

I thought, if I was going to bring Sakura to life, why not do several versons. I decided to go with the older iteration of her and consulted my large Pinterest board where I had all my ideas for her saved.

Friday will be an actual Sakura costume. Her black and green Ninja style outfit was perfect. I found a jacket on deep sale at Walmart and ripped off the sleeves.

Since it was May the 4th, I had to do something to celebrate the day. I had a few ideas on my Pinterest board for a Sakura Jedi. I decided this was a challenge I wanted. I thought and thought and thought…until I had one very busy week left to actually create the outfit. It took a few hours, a sheet, and some frustration, but I’m super excited to debut it.

I realized after a massively busy week and a weekend at ASTL, I was going to be exhausted. So I decided to go with a comfy causal Sakura (though if I don’t get enough wear out of Friday’s outfit I might wear it again).

Some Things to Look Forward To

There is something for everyone at ASTL. Check out the main events here. There are several things I’m looking forward to. Some of the highlights of ASTL are:

Vendors Room

Of course. You all know this about me by now. But I loved the vendor’s room at ASTL last year. I can’t wait to see what they have in store this year.

I can’t even get started on the quality of the foam workshops last year. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the panels are this year. You can see what they have planned for this year here.

They have an awesome lineup of guests this year. Their selection of voice over artists alone is fabulous.

In brief

I am looking forward to Anime St. Louis for a lot of reasons, the biggest of which is bringing my versions of Sakura to life. But I’m looking forward to seeing the people and getting selfies with everyone.

These are just my opinions. I’m not affiliated with any of the mentioned entities.
