Today, I’m wanting some positivity, so today we are going to hear why people love cosplay. This one of my favorite favorite questions to ask people.
What do you love about cosplay?
1. ME! (Iso Rivers)
I love the people. The cosplayers I have met are very supportive. We are passionate people. We are people who love what we do. And we are people who love to meet and support other people who love what we do.
Oh, and I love dressing up as a strong warrior who can conquer anything.

2. Alana Owlet
Guess I shouldn’t have just typed that big thing about making stuff but that’s it. I also really love being able to connect with other people in this hobby. It’s such an amazing community of people who are so passionate about so many things and I love that.
Being creative and being around supportive people. At ACE Comic-Con I loved taking pics with each and every kid that came up to me, that was so much fun!
Cosplay is a fun, creative outlet that I can share with my friends. Plus, it has allowed me to meet more like minded people who I wouldn’t have bumped into otherwise. And they’re freaking awesome.
The challenge. Ever since becoming a cosplayer, I have been constantly teaching myself new techniques of crafting and sewing. Just within the past few years, I’ve learned how to hand make chainmail, embroider, and make wigs. I also love meeting the fans of these characters. There’s nothing better than being able to make these beloved characters come to life for children and adults alike.
Meeting some good cosplayers that are down to earth and enjoy having fun like I do. That’s the best part. I want to eventually go help kids by cosplaying in front of them and showing them they could be a superhero just by being a decent human being.
I love being able to be a completely different person for a period of time. It makes me feel empowered.
8. Lil Panda
I love dressing up and love the appreciation I get on my work\ craftsmanship. The feeling you get when you dress up like a character you love and become them.
9. Luta Cosplay
Where to start! I really like making things so that makes me really excited to plan out and make a cosplay, I love immersing myself in the character and I really like going to cons and meeting people who like the characters and game/anime as much as I do.
10. Fedeowl Cosplay
I like that every time I go to the events and they compliment me I know I did something unique and special And then friends! I met my best friends cosplay …. and … also my love.
11. Jessica Davis
I love that cosplay allows a person to embrace their true, genuine self, and celebrate the things that bring them joy! There’s something empowering about embodying a character that you love. It’s also a wonderful community. Everyone is supportive, admiring, and encouraging. And everyone is SO talented and creative!
I love that I can be someone else for a while, and in the end of the day, take it all off and be myself. Also, I love that there’s so much love around cosplayers. Every time I go to cons, I feel the love of other cosplayers, and it’s just amazing, ’cause I get so many compliments and a home-feeling from people I don’t even know.
13. La Femme Nagita
I just love the process of becoming a character. I don’t know about other cosplayers, but when I’m in costume my personality changes based on who I’m cosplaying, the way I carry myself changes. It’s just so interesting to be someone else sometimes.
14. Mutant Glue
You can have fun as someone for a day. You get to dress up in completely different outfits and portray the character however you’d like. Its so much fun.
15. Cosplay Tonya
I’m an extreme introvert. So beyond creating the costume, which is such a passion of mine, the thing I love most about cosplay is the ability to go out in public as someone else. I get to become a character and wear a disguise so I don’t have to be myself.
You can do and be whatever and whomever you want to. There are complete new problems to solve which have nothing to do with everyday problems.
17. Rus S
I love the interaction at cons and seeing friends. Being able to walk around and meet people of similar interests is always exciting to me. I love traveling and going to cons, the farthest I’ve been is either Las Vegas or San Francisco so far. But I have met some great people along the way and everyone is so supportive!
The ability to become the character and people embrace that you get it. When people see you do a not so popular character from comics, they want to take a picture. The acceptance from the community.
I love seeing kids reactions to my Spider-Man suits when I take pictures with them.
I love doing charity events for kids and sometimes I feel like they think I’m actually Spider-Man. I went to a library event and it took me an hour to go from one side to the other because kids kept wanting to take pictures or running up to hug me.
I love that it gives me confidence. I get to be the characters I love and I get to connect with other people who share my interests. I have only been cosplaying a few months but I have made so many new friends through it. I really love it!
21. Dustin T. Dust Cosplay.
There’s so many things I love about cosplay. If I had to narrow it down I would say I love constantly learning new things, being able to show my love for characters in a fun and creative way, and my biggest one would be my love for the community as a whole. The cosplay community is one of the most open and welcoming communities I’ve ever seen and I am proud to be a part of it.
Because I can cosplay as my favorite characters and people come up and are friendly to me.
The community, the support, and the ability to just kind of become a different person and take a break from being yourself.
24. Ciel Stone
I love to go to cons, meeting new people, sharing tips with others…By other side I adore to cosplay one loved character and feel like him for a while.
25. Rumplestilt_Seam Cosplay
The reactions probably, this goes back to why I started in the first place. When you’re walking around a convention dressed as a superhero and children or adults alike run up to you its probably one of the most amazing things to see the awe and wonder in their eyes. The thing most people don’t think about is when I (or any other cosplayer) dress up, this is as close to shaking hands or giving a hug to the real Wonder Woman or Captain America as these people are ever going to get. You are the surrogate for those actors in a way in the eyes of the public. So for some it might be the fame or recognition, but for me it ultimately boils down to how happy it makes people.
26. AlyMoon Cosplay
Creating almost everything yourself, meeting people with same interests, just being dressed up, be the character,…. too many things too tell, I just LOVE IT.
28. Lady Jupiter Cosplay
That you can be anything you want without judgement. The cosplay community is so accepting.
28. Judge Gene Hunt
Something my family do together and as we do the judge Cosplay we are part of a community
29. Asozlezoa Cosplay
I just adore making the cosplay and seeing the end result. Knowing that all of the work you put in led to this beautiful finished work is just an amazing feeling. Next to that, spending time with friends at cons in cosplay is also great! And meeting new people because of your costume is a nice way to make friends ^~^”
30. Digital Surgeon Cosplay
So many things! I’d say being able to transform into someone else is one the greatest feelings of the whole experience for me. Since I struggle with my identity, this allows me to adopt the identity of a character with whom I feel a connection. I also highly appreciate the art of the craft that goes of the creation of many cosplayers. The community is also so wonderful, I’ve met so many amazing people who share the same passions as I do.
31. Miles Yagami Cosplay
I really love the freedom of expression it offers. The ability to create and wear something that I find great joy in in a wonderful, therapeutic release.
I love the reactions of the people. I’ve had people scare their kids with me and startled people who thought I was a statue. I’ve had people set up scenes to take pictures with me. I’ve had vendors and professional cosplayers ask about my methods and I’m new at this! I love figuring out the puzzle of how to make my cosplay true to the character, but also mine. I love the feeling of accomplishment and the feeling that I’ve done well because someone recognizes my character and/or wants a picture. It encourages me to try more and every time I look for something a little more difficult to top the last. I compete in contests, but it’s more of a competition against myself. I’ve won second place once, and it was awesome, but what was even better was when I was out of costume and a guy who recognized my obscure character came up to my handler (my seeing eye daughter) and told her to tell whoever made that costume that it was great and he’d voted for them (he didn’t know I was that person!). There’s just no better feeling.
33. Anthony Porter
I love how it brings together so many people who have a love for the same thing, regardless of race, gender etc.
The transformation. At a con I’ll meet someone Friday, and the next day I’ll have to completely reintroduce myself since they don’t recognize me at all. I pride myself in being so unrecognizable out of cosplay. It’s so fun to transform from one character to another.
35. Tastina Cosplay
Photoshootings and meeting new Cosbuddies.
36. Jasmine Abubaker
I love cosplaying because it has help me build confidence to a lot extent (I’m an introvert), I was able to make so many friends from the community. Building my own props gave me a sense of pride and contentment. Going to events and cons is one of my favorite part. It feels amazing, when some recognizes and appreciates your work.
37. Locus Fabrications
I guess I love the diversity and range of interests and skills? There are people that all about making stuff, like me, we make our own costumes and we pride ourselves in our work. We are walking folio pieces for our own craft. There are those who aren’t so much into the build, and who perhaps buy their costume, and instead they become a character through acting, performance and voice. Their presence itself is a display of how much they appreciate a character There are those who do a bit of both, and there are those who simply dress up because they like the character, and at the end of the day, here we all are, dressing up because we love to! That’s the beauty of cosplay. There is no wrong reason and no wrong way to do it.
I love making my costumes most. I have always been a very hands on person, and making my costumes makes me proud of what I can do! But also I love the community. I love how everyone at a con comes together to celebrate the things that they love. I cosplay not only to make myself happy, make my costumes and show them off to people ect, but also because i love making others happy and to see someone smile because you are their favorite character, I cannot explain the feeling but it definitely makes me happy!
39. Abernathy Valentine
This is tough because there is so much to love! First and foremost I love the process of designing and creating a cosplay. There is no better satisfaction to me than sitting back to nurse the pin pricks and hot glue burns on my fingers and admire a job well done. I love the challenge of acquiring new skills, like resin casing or silicone molding (Level up!), and the pride that comes from seeing a completed cosplay made by your own 2 hands.
41. Sawyers mess Cosplay
What’s not to love? My main thing about Cosplay is the community getting the fans together and having a laugh!
The thing I love most about cosplay is the community, as well as the friends I’ve made along the way. Making and wearing the costume is amazing and very rewarding, but meeting and spending time with all my fellow cosplayers at conventions and photoshoots is what keeps me striving.
42. Shannon from Diamonds and Dynamite Cosplay
When I first began, what I loved was how it was somewhat of a hiding technique. I’ve had a lot of problems with bullying throughout my childhood and teens, so I would hide my interests from my peers. When it came to cosplaying, I first threw on the wig and accessories on the bus to the convention in fear that someone would recognize me. Now, I am proudly strutting my cosplay interests and happily promoting myself.
I have found the community is an amazing thing to be part of; the group meet-ups, the mutual sharing of your latest creation, the discussions of hot glue gun burns, and the humorous videos that all come out of the conventions are some of the best parts.
But, of course, the most important moment is when a child rushes up to you with their parents desperate for a picture with you. The joy they have when they pose with you, or when you talk to them in the character voice is something that cannot be beaten.”
43. YOKO X AOI Cosplay
We love that it brings people together and that it’s a common ground for many friendships to grow from. We may meet a person cosplaying from the same series we are cosplaying from, we talk about the other characters or what’s our favorite episode, and next thing we know, we’re eating out with them or planning out-of-con visits to their place and hang out! It’s just amazing!
Everything! Being able to show my love for my fave characters and getting to “be” someone completely different to myself (depending on how into character I get!). Meeting other cosplayers/fans of the same things and taking pics together – I’ve made so many amazing friends through cosplay. I’ve also learned so many new skills thanks to cosplay that I never would have thought to try otherwise, like sewing and wig styling.
I love the different types of people who cosplay. The first time you put on a costume, you transform into someone new. I like the creativity that comes with cosplaying and designing. The first time I went to a convention I noticed everyone interacted with each other and there was no anger or hostility. Cosplaying makes me feel free and I become more confident when the costume is complete and I realize I did that.
I love getting into character and portraying that character the best I can.
47. Kitten Kaboodle Cosplay
For me personally, I use cosplay as a sort of therapy. It distracts me from depression and gives me something to be proud of. I use cosplay to challenge myself, I love trying new techniques and entering in to craftsmanship competitions. It is a way for me to work on my discipline, time management, budgeting, and other skills that don’t even revolve around sewing! I also love the friends that I have made from it, and that it has brought my friends closer together as well. Cosplay really is so much more than people give it credit for, it builds friends, esteem, skills, and more!
I love the preparation and the research you got to do, to get together all you need for your costume, makeup, etc. It teaches you a lot of new skills and despite all that work it has something soothing. I like working on my cosplays after work and I really enjoy to wear them at a convention.
